They are a great example of what square dancers are, friendly, caring, fun, encouraging and tireless in their efforts to bring the joy of square dancing to others. We started square dancing in 1978 after a Fun Night to which our neighbors Helen & Peter Gabriel finally succeeded to convince us to go. We graduated in 1979 when the Town Howlers had at least 16-18 squares at a dance. We danced for a few years
then Marlene was working evenings and the two children got involved in baseball
and boy scouts as did we; so our Friday dancing nights were taken over for a
while. In 1988 Marlene took a day job, the boys were 16 & 13 we got some time
back so we returned to another Fun Night with newly acquired friends Bob &
Theresa Haupt. We met another couple, Mike & Barbara Rocha from Little Compton
who used to dance with the "other Portsmouth Square Dance Club" the Grand
Squares but like the Davises, family needs superseded dancing. Bob is now a Caller, the
Rocha's now have other commitments but join us on special occasions. Donald & Marlene |
